Wendy’s announced plans to shutter an additional 140 restaurants by the end of the year, citing “underperforming” locations.
According to CNN, these locations are expected to close within the next few months, and are in addition to 100 other locations the company said it would close in May. These are all going to be restaurants that are “outdated and located in underperforming areas,” according to Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner.
However, the company said it would open close to the same amount of locations to offset the closures in more profitable areas for the fast-food giant.
The company has not yet released a list of locations that are on the chopping block yet, but there are currently 6,012 restaurants located in the U.S. with 145 in New Jersey, according to the company’s website.
There are other restaurant chains that announced closures due to underperforming locations, including Denny’s and TGI Friday’s.
